A well-orchestrated conspiracy is emerging as a dire threat to the political landscape of Bangladesh. Under the leadership of the CID and the so-called NCP, a blacklist is being prepared targeting grassroots-level Awami League leaders and members of affiliated organizations. Preparations are underway to file at least five false cases against each leader. The sole purpose is to eliminate them from politics and coerce them, through fear and intimidation, into joining a new political party.
As part of this scheme, a “compromise option” has been devised whereby leaders and activists must resign from the Awami League, pay a specified amount of money, and join the Kings Party or the NCP. A portion of this extorted money will be embezzled by involved police personnel, while the rest will be funneled into the new party’s fund. This plan is using state machinery to establish a one-party authoritarian rule by forcefully removing political opponents.
Grassroots Awami League leaders are the foundation of political stability and democracy in the country. Such targeted attacks are essentially a move to destroy independent politics. The democratic future of the nation is at grave risk.
Now is the time to resist. Civil society, journalists, and all conscious citizens must raise their voices in unison against this conspiracy. If not, we may soon find ourselves at the brink of losing our freedom and democracy.
