Who is behind the deaths of Champa Rani and her young daughter?
The bodies of Champa Rani Das and her four-year-old daughter, Hridi Rani Das, were found hanging inside their own home in Burhanpur village of Barahal Union, Zakiganj, Sylhet. The discovery of a hanging mother from a minority community alongside her four-year-old daughter cannot simply be treated as an ordinary incident.
In recent times, the fear, insecurity, and social persecution faced by minority families across the country have increased amid the activities of extremist groups and what is alleged to be the support of the BNP-Jamaat alliance. This incident is a tragic reflection of that growing insecurity. Continued threats against religious minorities and the influence of extremists over marginalized communities are pushing the country’s social security toward the brink of collapse.
Not minority or majority, every citizen deserves security.
