⁨58 Years of Marriage End in a Single Evening: Was She an Easy Target Simply Because She Belonged to a Religious Minority?

Published on

In Barkoit of Chandina, a woman was brutally beaten to death after returning home from evening prayers. Fifty-eight-year-old Bina Rani Roy was repeatedly struck on the head. The attackers fled before anyone could arrive after hearing her screams. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Local residents are asking: Who had the courage to enter a home in the evening and brutally beat a woman to death? Was she targeted so fearlessly simply because she belonged to a minority community?

The nature of the attack suggests that it may have been deliberate. If this were an ordinary case of theft or robbery, there would have been no reason to repeatedly strike her head with such brutality.

In 2026, the same pattern appears to be repeating: attacks on minority homes, vandalism at temples, and violence against women. Yet the government currently in power remains silent. There appear to be no effective measures to protect religious minorities. Instead, after every incident, the same statements are repeated: an investigation is underway; the motive is not yet known.

A family has been shattered today. After finishing her evening prayers, a mother was sitting at home watching television. Moments later, her head was brutally crushed. The sheer brutality of the incident raises a chilling question: Has being a minority in this country itself become a crime? Has even asking for security become a luxury?⁩
