Awami League Leader Brutally Murdered in Sitakunda Amid Ongoing State-sponsored violence in Bangladesh

    Published on

In a chilling display of state-sponsored violence in Bangladesh, Muslim Uddin—Joint Secretary of Ward No. 4 Muradpur Union Jubo League in Sitakunda, Chattogram—was brutally hacked to death by alleged operatives linked to the Dr Yunus regime. The fatal attack occurred around 6 PM on Thursday, April 10, in the Beribadh area of the union.

Muslim Uddin, son of Abu Taher (President of the Muradpur Ward Awami League), was employed as a supervisor at a nearby under-construction factory. According to eyewitnesses and local sources, he was near the worksite when 10–12 armed assailants ambushed him with locally made weapons. The attackers inflicted multiple injuries before fleeing the scene. Despite being rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.

This assassination marks yet another alarming escalation in the wave of political repression in Bangladesh under the interim Yunus-led regime, which has seen rising instances of violence targeting activists, union leaders, and supporters of the Awami League.

Observers warn that such political violence in Bangladesh, if left unchecked, signals a dangerous erosion of democratic norms, accountability, and the rule of law. The murder of Muslim Uddin adds to growing fears that the state apparatus is enabling, if not directly facilitating, systematic attacks on political opponents.
