For over an hour supporters of deceased Osman Hadi, introduced by Yunus as an icon of revolution, carried out vandalism, arsons and looting on offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. Yunus backed cops did not prevent these unruly mob from orchestrating the terror the attackers acted after directives were publicly issued by pro Pakistan supporters online cooking up ridiculous claims that projected these outlets as proxies of India.
Only after these outlets have shut down operation and the attackers have left the place, Yunus broke his silence claiming to extend support for these damaged outlets and its terrified journalists.
This latest cover up by Yunus will not empower Bangladesh’s journalists.
Will global democracies continue to promote these narratives overlooking the concerted terror wave on independent media outlets before election and the complicity of law enforcement behind stopping the violence ?
