The interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus stands accused of a grotesque violation of human and child rights following the arrest of a 14-year-old eighth-grade student, identified only as Imran. The arrest, which opponents label a politically motivated act of revenge, starkly exposes the state’s reckless abuse of power and the complete breakdown of the rule of law.
The incident raises the chilling question: Has the illegal grip on power become so reckless that even a 14-year-old child is now a target of this administration’s campaign of suppression?
The Targeting of a Child
Imran, an eighth-grade student, was allegedly arrested by law enforcement, accused of being a member of the Chhatra League, the student wing of the opposition Awami League. At an age where he should be focused on school, rest, and sports, the young boy has been weaponized by the state as a political ‘opponent.’
“This is their morality. This is their humanity. This is their sense of law,” stated a highly placed source within the opposition, condemning the move as a “complete loss of sanity” by the administration.
Father’s Agony at the Station Gate
The human toll of the arrest was laid bare by the desperate actions of the boy’s father. Gravely ill and visibly trembling, Imran’s father rushed to the police station, carrying every conceivable document—his son’s birth certificate, school ID, and roll number—to prove his age and innocence.
“He is crying at the station gate. Going from office to office. Begging officials, ‘My son is a child… he doesn’t even know politics…’“
This plea for basic humanity was met with the cold machinery of state power. The administration’s willingness to label a 14-year-old child as a political adversary and detain him demonstrates the true, vengeful nature of their so-called justice.
A Vengeful, Monstrous Machine
Critics argue this incident proves the Yunus administration is no longer a functioning government, but a “vengeful, monstrous machine” built to intimidate and suppress political opposition by tagging innocent citizens with false charges.
This crime is a damning confirmation that Bangladesh has descended into lawlessness:
- ❗ Violation of Child Rights: The arrest directly contravenes national and international protections for minors.
- ❗ Violation of Human Rights: Arbitrary detention and the denial of due process for a child.
- ❗ Naked Abuse of State Power: The state apparatus is being weaponized against the most vulnerable citizens for political ends.
If the administration can dress up a 14-year-old as an ‘opponent’ and arrest him, it signifies that there is no law in this country, only the madness of illegal power.
